This blog began out of the great inspiration I received through our hosting experience.  Something about our time with Sasha opened my eyes to some spiritual truths in a new way.  It has been my intention all along to share these, and I think I’m finally ready. So, now begins the time to go a little deeper in these reflections…

Everything about hosting was an adventure, especially in the beginning when so much was unknown.  We chose our child based on 1 photograph and a short 3537090225_fd56cb09d1biography.  There were 100s of children to consider, but we knew he was the one.  He was no longer just another photo on the list, he was ours. He didn’t choose us, we chose him.

And in choosing him, we loved him. We loved him long before we even met him, long before beginning a relationship with him.  My family and I prayed for him nearly every day leading up to the day we met him at the airport. (some of my prayers)  Sasha didn’t need to do anything to deserve our love or earn it. We loved him anyways, we prayed for God’s protection over him, for him to know love, peace, comfort, grace, and joy.

We chose him.
We loved him before he knew us.

In one sense, this felt revolutionary, but this is not a novel concept.   This is the same as Christ has done for us. For those who believe – we are chosen and loved unconditionally.  Before ever having a relationship with Christ, he wanted us. And in that love, he draws us near to him to share in the joy of being chosen and loved.  We have a place to belong, a place where we are wanted.

You are chosen and loved!

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!)
