Why Give?

We have been supported by so many great partners along this journey already!  Lately I have been thinking back to my first post about this trip – Fear of Fundraising.  I had so many fears about why this should not work out… but it has in so many ways!

I’ve been so blessed by everyone’s willingness to partner with our mission.  It’s so great to get a donation, but in the last few weeks I asked some people what specifically prompted them to give. The answers have been so encouraging to me… just to see how each person’s generosity came from a different place in their heart.

This is just a little glimpse at the heart behind some of our supporters! We still have several hundred dollars that need to be raised by June 5th! Will you join these friends in helping us get to Ukraine?

You can give easily and securely online –http://fnd.us/c/5W3p3

…and feel free to comment explaining why you give. =)

Sale–Everything Must Go!

Ok, so this may be a rare thing for me, but I mean what I say in this title… it’s not some symbol / metaphor / analogy to some deep spiritual concept… I’m really having a sale and everything really must go!

Back in April, I went on a crafting kick to sell some items at my church’s Spring Market at a women’s event.  It was a great event, but I nearly brought home everything I had taken with me.

After that, I started an online auction with the items to help fundraise our way to Ukraine.  In the past few weeks, I was able to sell a few more items, but not nearly everything that I have ‘in stock’.

And now, I am just ready to share it with whoever wants it at whatever price!  In the terms of eBay – the last few weeks you could only get items through ‘bidding’ but starting today all items are ‘buy it now’ and you name your price!

Like I mentioned in a past post, I didn’t make these just for the sake of making money.  I wanted to make things that people would connect with, that would inspire them, that would cause their spirits to have compassion compassion for the people and children from other parts of the globe.   So, it is still my prayer that people would see an item, and be connected with it or it remind them of someone they know who is from that place, longs to travel to that place, has left a piece of their heart in that part of the world, or brought a piece of their heart home from that part of the world.  Some of the places featured are Africa, India, Springfield MO, Seattle, Minneapolis/St Paul, Philadelphia, Portland, coastal North Carolina, New York City, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, and coastal Florida!

Also, if you did not see, we were given a $500 matching donation for our missions trip!  That means every dollar that is given towards the trip will be matched, up to $500… and anything you purchase from here will be matched as well!  Here’s how:

  1. Just click the photo below to go to the Facebook album
  2. Find the item(s) you want
  3. Name your price in a comment or private message
  4. Just name your price & the donation will be matched by our donor
  5. Give donation and shipping charges
  6. Enjoy your item or share it with someone special!
  7. Your donation will help us get to Ukraine to minister to orphans who have aged-out of the orphanages!

Thank you for your support and prayers!

Double Your Donation!

I am so excited to share a big announcement! We have been given a BIG matching donation for our missions trip to Ukraine!

A great friend that my dad and I met through hosting from New Horizons for Children has offered a $500 matching donation.  That means beginning on June 9th, they will match every donation that is given to our trip! So if you give $20, they will give $20. If you give $100, they give another $100.

So if you ever were afraid to give because you thought your donation was not significant, you can now donate knowing that your seed of faith is actually being doubled for our cause!

Our donor felt led to give a matching donation because they have adopted children from Ukraine, have a heart for the aging-out orphans that we will be serving on our trip, and want to encourage others to give to our cause!

All donations given online or by check beginning June 9th will be doubled!

To give online, visit http://fnd.us/c/5W3p3

To give by check, read the details in our support letter https://jenelleac.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/ukrainetripletter_2.pdf

Thank you so much for your donations and joining in with our donor to support our mission to extend a hand to the aging-out teens in Ukraine!

Fear of Fundraising

Let’s just get it out there – “Hi, my name is Jenelle, and I’m afraid of fundraising.”  There.  I said it.  The elephant in the room has been addressed.

When I first committed to going on a missions trip to Ukraine this summer, there was not any hesitation in my mind.  This is something that I need to do.  I must do this for Sasha.  I must do this for my God who gave everything for me.

But now, reality has hit.  It’s time to get to work and actually make this thing happen.  Together my dad and I need to raise $4,000 plus several $1,000s more to go towards the building & ministry we are working with…. in less than 2 months.

Now all these questions and doubts come to my mind:

-Where will this money come from?
-Everyone you know has their own financial needs to worry about.
-It’s hard enough to raise the money for 1 person, let alone 2 people.
-Everyday that passes just means the airfare will get more expensive.
-You can’t rely on people to keep helping pay for trips that you keep going on.
-It’s too late, you should have started doing this months ago.
-Everyone will just ignore your pleas for donations.
-Didn’t you just ask people for a ton of money for an adoption 1 year ago… that didn’t even work out?

…and honestly, fear sets in.  The easy thing to do would be to give into that fear, give up, back out, and not go.

But giving into fear is not going to please God.  Giving into fear is not going to give hope and future to orphans.  Giving into fear is not going to communicate to my forever Ukrainian brother in one huge (and possibly final) way that I will do everything in my power to show him he is loved.

And so here I am, ready to say ‘no’ to fear and ‘Use me Lord!’ to The One I know who will provide for my every need.

Today starts a faith challenge for me, a challenge to trust God to provide $2,000 for me to get back to Ukraine, to build a place for orphans, and my brother, to call home.  I will not rely on other people to get me there, I will rely on God… God working through my believing brothers and sisters, to get me there.

If you feel led to let the Lord use you to help me get to Ukraine, there are 2 things you can do:

  1. Download our Support Letter by clicking here and read how to give directly to our trip.
  2. Bid on something in my Facebook auction! It is a collection of items I have purchased new or ‘upcycled’ in a new crafting kick. In this auction, you type your bid in the comments and the highest bid on May 27th will be the winner! Get something for yourself, to decorate your kid’s room, classroom, homeschool room, or as a gift for someone who loves that part of the world! Click here to see items up for auction!

Cool stuff goes to the highest bidder!

Thank you for your support and prayers as God continues to grow my faith through this challenge!

For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

More Than Just Crafts

So, if you have asked me what I have been up to for the past few weeks, I have probably told you I was crafting… because that’s the truth.  Pretty much every spare moment I’ve been cutting, pasting, painting, nailing something to make it beautiful.

I haven’t just been crafting for the fun of it, I’ve been creating items to sell at my church’s Spring Market at a women’s rally.  938802_10151584209885861_738576393_oThe Spring Market is for local women to sell hand-crafted items to others attending the event.

When I first heard about the event, I immediately knew I wanted a booth.  Not because I’m a crafter.  I haven’t really made anything before.  But with the opportunity to raise some money for New Horizons for Children and tell people about our ministry, I’d be willing to make just about anything!

So, I thought about it for a whole 12 hours and decided to make things with a map theme.  It not only is very trendy now, but also goes perfectly with our ministry that builds lasting connections with orphans and families who would otherwise be worlds apart.

Knowing I was doing this for a cause that is so near to my heart, I wanted to be sure to put my heart into everything.  I wanted to make things that people would connect with, that would inspire them, that would cause their spirits to compassion to the people and children from other parts of the globe.   I knew that as I was crafting things, there would be a story behind why people were drawn to the item and what prompted them to purchase it.

I crafted day and night and came up with over 100 saleable items… ranging from coasters and lamps, to clipboards and bookmarks.  It was so fun to get everything together and sell them with the other local NHFC moms at the church last night.  Some even pitched in with their own items they made.

My favorite part of the night was just the affirmation that what I had made was more than just crafts.  It was the conversations and connections that people made with the items that made it worthwhile.

A young college student came by and was so interested in all we had… and believe me, there was a lot to see!  The one she seemed most interested in was a nail and string depiction of Africa with a heart in the middle.  As I was making it, I had wondered, where in Africa do people have their hearts?  I knew that many people adopted from Ethiopia and there are also others who are passionate about missions in Kenya, so I figured someone’s heart would be drawn to this part of the country.  As the girl was reaching for her purse, she said “I have to get this for my friend.”  She went on to explain how her friend had gone on a missions trip to Africa and it completely changed her life.  She said when she returned to the US from her trip, she cried and cried because her heart was so broken for the people she met there and she longed to go back.  Her friend knew she would love this piece to remind her of Africa and the people she loved there. For that friend, I knew it would be more than just a craft.

Then there was a middle aged woman who came by our table, admiring all the things we had to share.  She loved all the different maps and places we featured on our items.  But as soon as she saw the blue “GO” I made with different Central American countries, she just had to have it.  She explained that she really wanted to give it to her business partner.  Her business partner has taken several trips to El Salvador and is in love with the people there.  When she returns from her trips she cries and cries because she longs to return so badly.  This lady knew she had to purchase this item for her because that is where she longs to be and spread the Gospel to the people she loves there so much.  For that business partner, I knew it would be much more than a craft.

Together, the other host moms and I did not make a ton of money, but we did accomplish a couple of our goals.  We shared with many people about hosting and the dire need for people to love the school age orphans in Eastern Europe and got to share some meaningful items with people and their friends that will connect, inspire, and build compassion in their hearts for people around the world.

I do have many leftover crafted items leftover from the market. Stay tuned to read how you can have your very own craft… that’s more than just a craft! Winking smile

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord

‘Tis the Season– “We love because He first loved us”

‘Tis the season… for many things!  ‘Tis the season for parties, decorations, gifts, happiness, snow, giving, celebration, family, and fun.  And so much more!  Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who was sent by God for all humankind.  God gave us the greatest gift of all because of his great, never-ending love for us.

Those are my 2 favorite things to see in action at Christmas time – giving & love.  For me, that is the best way to celebrate the season, by following God’s example and sharing those things with others just as He did for us.

There’s one special way that you can give and show love to an awesome teen this Christmas.  Sasha, my future brother, is spending one last Christmas in a Ukrainian orphanage this year.   The rest of our family is at home preparing for his soon-coming arrival.  And you can help make that arrival Sasha is dreaming of become a reality.

This Christmas, my family is sending out an extra card along with our Christmas cards.  It explains how God has brought this special young man into our lives, the journey we have started to adopt him, the great financial need to make it happen, & an opportunity for you to help.

Please take a look at our card and consider if there’s a way you could demonstrate the spirit of the season by giving and loving a Ukrainian orphan this Christmas.

We appreciate all of your prayers, love, and support throughout this journey!

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us.
